There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that features a number of comforts in addition to the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
